{Giveaway!} A Year of Organic Valley Products

*** This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks for participating! ***

Today we have an awesome giveaway from an equally awesome company, Organic Valley, an organic dairy cooperative which started in Wisconsin and is now the number one provider of organic milk in the nation.

In honor of Earth Day this week and Organic Valley’s general philosophy on food, they invited us to be a part of their Earth Dinner initiative.  The idea behind Earth Dinner is to get people thinking and talking about eating locally produced foods, centered around a meal where as many ingredients as possible are locally sourced.   Since 2004, Earth Dinner meals have spread to include college campuses, restaurants and individual families hosting Earth Dinners.

The awesome folks at Organic Valley are giving away a package that contains everything you would need to host your own Earth Dinner:
1) Coupons for One Year’s Worth of Free Organic Valley Products (a $520 value!)
2) 4 Earth Dinner Books
3) A reusable, packable shopping bag for carrying your bounty

Pretty covetable stuff! Just the idea of the Earth Dinner has us itching to get into our gardens and out to the farmers market to pick up local produce and dreaming of desserts that involve homemade whipped cream…because, seriously, Organic Valley’s heavy whipping cream is hands down the best we’ve found.  Try it on any of our pies, cobblers or other treats!

Wow–what an awesome prize! I would be honored to win! We are shopping every Sunday at our local farmer’s market and already planning our summer garden. We did a garden last year, but this year, we’re calling it our “victory garden” and have plans to grow even more. I am an avid cook and gardener and would so love to win this giveaway! Thanks so much!

  2. Great giveaway! Well, we joined a coop this past year and are going to turn to a CSA this season as well to focus our consumption on in-season items. I think the garden is also next on the list.

  3. I love to go to the local farmer’s market and buy local organic produce. I’m also planning on attempting an herb garden this year but I don’t have much of a green thumb!

  4. Katie

I will be planting a herb garden and heading to local farmer’s market for produce!

  5. Kelly

WOW!!! Great giveaway!!! I will be going to the farmers market too and have plans to plant my own vegetables in the yard as well!

What a great idea–I plan to check back to read everyone’s posts!

Things I have planned for this year: 1) our first venture into CSA; 2) planting a small garden with my children and helping them understand where our food comes from; 3) replacing all of our beef intake with locally raised grain-fed beef; 4) incorporating farmer’s markets into a normal part of our routine, and not just a special thing we do on occasion.

  7. Anne

We have always shopped at our local farmer’s market, as well as our local produce auction. I would LOVE to try my hand at canning this year in order to eat more local food year-round! The rows of Mason jars lined up on basement shelves….reminds me of my Grandma’s. ☺

  8. What an incredibly generous giveaway. I am visiting local farmers markets and supporting local restaurants and businesses that offer certified South Carolina grown producers! I’m also toying with the idea of gardening, but I am not exactly known for my green thumb!!

  9. Sheila

As a cancer survivor, fresh fruits and veggies are a daily must…we must know what we are putting into our bodies! We have many local venues to purchase local produce, honey, and beef and poultry…but nothing beats the enjoyment of making a meal from things you have grown yourself. Hoping this year for the strength to be able to enjoy the garden more, and can some of the benefits to enjoy all winter long. Enlist the grandchildren or children to help….teach them to appreciate the value of healthy eating, and reaping the benefits of what they have planted.

What a wonderful giveaway. I have a couple things I plan to do. First I like to shop at the local farmer’s markets when the open in summer. Second I have been looking into options for starting a garden in our yard this year. Last I have been looking into local farms that sell produce and meat directly at their location.

  11. 1. On my birthday list: CSA Membership.
    2. Planned on planting the garden this Earth Day, however we’ll see how the friendly skies cooperate.
    3. Compost, Compost, Compost!
    4. Farmer’s Market (June can’t come soon enough..)

Oh wait, you only asked for one..
    Pick me, Pick me!

  12. What a wonderful giveaway!! This summer I plan to grow my own produce in a well cared for garden with my 1 & 1/2 year old. We also plan to have a worm farm for composting and nutrient-rich soil for the garden.

I would love to be the lucky winner!!

    Great blog too.

  13. Brianna

Wow! This is an amazing giveaway!!!

  14. Lynn

    What a great giveaway!

We signed up with our CSA (Full Harvest) again this year. I am also planning a larger garden so that I can more!

  15. Sherie

We have a fairly large garden. This year, we plan to make our two boys in charge of their own “garden space.” We have marked off areas in the garden that they each will be responsible for. They have selected their own vegetables based on what they like to eat, in addition to what they plan to help mom make for meals. They are already excitedly planning out menu ideas based on what they plan to grow!

  16. beth

my fiance and i are planning on joining a CSA…our hope is that it becomes one of the “regular” things we do during our lifetime together! 🙂

  17. Lori Jansen

Such a great giveaway. We started using Organice Valley after my son turned 1 and started on whole milk. Every summer we shop at our local farmer’s market, but this year will be different now that my son is eating the same food we are. I’ve occationally bought organic in the past, but now it’s even more important. It’s funny what you will put in your mouth, but won’t put in your child’s mouth. We’ll definitely be looking for locally grown, organic foods for the whole family.

  18. Sharon

I’ve joined a CSA near my neighborhood, to which I can ride my bike. Trying to lower my environmental footprint (just finished reading “No Impact Man”) so there will be more thoughtful decisions about where my food comes from, what kind of farmer I’m supporting and how I can make a positive environmental difference.

  19. Lori

I’m going to visit local farmer’s markets and start growing tomatoes, herbs and lettuce on my deck this year.

  20. Barb

Hi! What a great give away. We love going to our local farmers market in the summer for fresh produce. I’d love to plant an herb garden and i’ve been wanting to start composting too. I hope to give both a try this year!

  21. Deb

we have made a commitment to buy from our local farmers and farmers’ markets, and to buy in season! we are also adding a raised bed to our garden this year which will (hopefully) provide some more extremely local produce. next year, a csa!

  22. Amy Drorbaugh

We planted our own garden this year and are going to sign up for a organic food coop. 🙂

    amydrorbaugh@gmail.com

  23. Jennifer

I’m going to freeze/can/dehydrate more local food when it’s in season so that I can eat local in the Winter!

  24. I’m so excited to move into our new house because it has an *amazing* garden in the backyard! I’ve been dreaming of all the delicious “crops” I’ll grow! And what I can’t grow, I’ll simply mosey on over to South Shore Park in Bay View for their fabulous farmer’s market each weekend. It can’t get here soon enough! 🙂

  25. adina

We packed up and moved to a new state last fall, and ended up with the city’s farmer’s market a mere 6 blocks away. We’ll be hitting the market every Sunday, and taking our bikes or wagon instead of the car. Looking forward to making jam this spring!

  26. Our backyard garden box is already in progress (despite the snow this morning), but I’m also going to get up earlier on Saturdays in the summer so I can catch more of the South Shore Farmers Market. Can’t wait for Farmers Market season.

  27. Theresa

Adding eggs direct from the farmer to our CSA membership! Love your site, ladies. Learned about it from the Marquette magazine and have been sharing with friends ever since. My dear husband loved his heart-shaped nutella french toast on Valentine’s day morning. 🙂

  28. Debbie

I am now buying goat’s milk from a local rancher! Love the heavy whipping cream from Organic Valley…would be great to have more dairy as I am trying to learn to make cheese!

  29. Kim

I have already planted my lettuce, spinach and arugula, to bad it snowed this morning, I hope it makes it thru, I was so looking forward to my salad stuff poking thru shortly. I experimented with some new lettuce this year. Also trying to grow carrots for the first time and….can’t wait to start shopping the farmers market in two weeks when my local one opens.

  30. Megan

    Visit the farmer’s market!

  31. Erin

This summer we plan on expanding our current garden by adding a trellis to our fence to grow climbing veggies, as well as adding to the herbs mixed with my flowers and shrubs. We visit our summer farmers’ market, however, we’d like to get involved with a CSA and visit the winter markets.

  32. Growing my own veggies!!!

  33. Mindie Boynton

Starting my own organic garden in the back yard with my family.

I will also be shopping the new downtown Oshkosh farmer’s market. Check it out http://www.oshkoshsaturdayfarmersmarket.com/

  34. Kate

I am about to be a newlywed and my future hubby and I have decided to make Sundays our date day. One of the things about summer Sundays we are looking most forward to is visiting our local farmers market at the city market in Kansas City. We can take our dog, get exercise and pick up locally grown foods to use as we begin cooking together as husband and wife!

  35. Emily Sack

We just got chickens! We also have a huge veggie garden.

  36. Dana

My husband and I just bought new bikes. I am excited to start riding on the weekends to our town’s farmer’s market every Saturday to stock up on sweet corn and asparagus, cherries and blueberries. I also want to try a bunch fruits and veggies that I haven’t tried to cook with or eaten before. It starts next weekend and I am so excited!!!

  37. Jaime

My friends and I are planning on doing a garden/veggie swap this summer. Each of us always has extras of the things we grow so we are going to get together to trade and share our abundance so we have a better variety of things to use to make great, local meals!

  38. Candace

I joined an apprenticeship on an organic farm that does “hands on” training on how to grow food in your back yard all the way to a working farm. And that includes being a part of their CSA! Can’t wait to get my weekly produce!!

  39. Elizabeth

With our baby just moving on to solid foods, eating organic is more and more important to us. We started just yesterday with planting some spices and plan on visiting our farmers market as often as possible this year. Our bouncing baby girl actually has an appreciation for veggies right now, we are hoping to keep that up.

  40. Erica Best

liked earth dinner erica best and i love going to my local farmer market.

  41. Linz

I plan on using my reusable, packable shopping bag for carrying my items home from the farmers market. Then I’ll look through the 4 Earth Dinner Books to inspire ideas for meals for my family! Just think of all the amazing things I can make if I use all that yummy farmer’s market produce and pair it up with things that I buy using my Coupons for One Year’s Worth of Free Organic Valley Products (a $520 value!) What an amazing summer it will be! Tee hee hee.

  42. o sign me up! this summer i plan to go to the farmers market more often and buy local produce 🙂 cant wait! xoxo jillian

  43. Jane Fee

Great giveaway! And the whipped cream is the best – it almost whips itself!
I will be joining a CSA again this year – I like the challenge of receiving a “mystery box” each week and figuring out what to make with its ingredients….and I am still making all my own bread…and really want to learn to preserve jams and chutneys this year. I also read an article about someone who made everything from scratch and have been trying to do that…though my latest effort at crackers was a bit of a bust (hint, hint for a future topic?).

  44. Traci

I started canning last year with simple things my husband and I love – Pickles, Beets, and Salsa. I plan on attempting applesauce and tomoato sauce this summer. I am also trying to get my Grandmas bloody mary recipe to can(or convince her to come to Vegas to teach me!). We get our groceries from Winder Farms a semi-organic delivery service and when we can find one go to farmers markets.

  45. SD

Living in the Midwest, it’s not easy to eat locally in the winter. But during the spring, summer and fall, I head to the farmers market weekly for fresh, local produce. And, this year, I joined a CSA with a friend that grows organic fruits and veggies. I also have little tomato, pepper and herb plants to help supplement–in addition to my parents’ bountiful garden goodies! I’m just starting to get into canning, so that’s a new goal/project for the summer. Plus, our farmers market has a Locavore Challenge in the fall that urges participants to eat only local food for 2 weeks, which I’ve participated in for the past 2 years. It’s a challenge, but it’s great!

  46. domestic diva

I don’t do FB, but we are trying to grow a lot more food ourselves. We also shop primarily at our local farmers’ market from spring through fall.

  47. I love organic valley products!! I plan on hitting up the Wauwatosa farmers market as often as possible, planting herbs in my yard and giving tomatoes a try (yikes!), and ordering meat from a local farmer at the market.

  48. O MY CUPCAKES!
Living up at 7,000 ft. there is a very limited growing period, three months, but we have the best local market, it is New Frontiers. I can always count on them to bring to us up here local farmers’ products from ground turkey, to specialized olives, a Sushi chef, the deli is to die for, and the beauty products will keep you young and lookin’ fresh, and the healthiest food ever.
My daughter will not eat any meat unless it is from New Frontiers. We know where the product came from, and we know that only the best for us up here amongst the sacred mountains; San Francisco Peaks, and then we other volcanoes surrounding our beautiful town, of Flagstaff, Arizona, enjoy, redraven, blessings,

  49. I’m planning on buying more of my food from the farmers market that’s on my college’s campus every wednesday. I’m also hoping to be able to grow some of my own food in a small vegetable garden at my parents’ house. I love going out into the garden and eating cherry tomatoes straight off the vine.

  50. Janice

FB fan / like Earth Dinner. My FB profile:
    http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000826352246

we plant fruits and veggies, and we’ll probably expand since it tastes so much better freshly grown!

  51. Ruby Falls

I garden and can, and going to the farmer’s market is a standard family activity. We actually used to sell baked goods there until our legislature made it impossible to do so. The kids and I will be making the rounds of local u-picks. My fellow canners and I are planning classes to help teach other folk to can and preserve. We will encourage people to “trade” — i.e., to offer whatever goods they might have (garden bounty, fresh eggs) to “pay” the canning teachers.

I’m a little behind on the gardening right now since I’m about to have a baby any day. So, some of my like-minded friends are saving seedlings for me for me.

  52. We are expanding our organic veggie/herb/fruit garden from containers on our deck to in the ground plantings that take up the whole east side of our home!!! You can’t get much more local than your side yard! LOL

  53. This year my partner and I are going to be selling stuff and buying stuff at the local farmers’ market and local community market as often as possible! We normally don’t go much, but have made a concerted effort to go at LEAST 2x a month this year!

  54. Going to look into the CSA because I JUST found out there is a drop off program on the campus where I work! Also – hit up the numerous farmers markets – you can find one almost every single day in Sunny San Diego!! Love your blog – just found you recently and am your new biggest fan! 🙂

  55. tricia

I love Organic Valley Products! I’m a big fan of their stuff. This year I made room for a way bigger garden than previous years, I hope it will take off! I also plan on mostly buying my veggies from farmer’s markets and farms in Wisconsin. Every Sunday, my family and I eat at restaurant that uses all local produce, meat and dairy. We look forward to it every week 🙂

  56. Hilary

My plan is to eat something from our garden every night…especially if it means me and the kids standing outside, munching sugar snap peas right from the vine! Yum!

  57. Kay

I plan to expand my garden this year and rely on my own green thumb this year rather than chemicals and pesticides.

  58. bets

We plan on explanding our garden by adding a bed and if we are really brave getting chickens.

  59. Erin

I’m incorporating more fruits & veggies in my diet so I want to start shopping at our local farmer’s market. It’ll be cheaper, support our local farmers and I’ll be able to have delicious organic fruits & veggies!

I liked Earth Dinner on fb (erin d)
