Grilled Cheese: minor obsession. Simple. Butter both sides of the bread. (Thank you, husband for this technique.) Shredded cheddar cheese on both sides of the bread. (It melts like a dream. The sharper the cheddar, the better the cheddar.) Ham, lightly crisped in the pan. (Thank you, husband.) And at the very last minute, crisp green apples sliced thin. (That’s right, right into the middle of the sandwich.) Hallelujah!

  2. My favorite “grilled cheese” — ham+brie+green apple.
    Or cheddar+Harry&David tomato relish.
    Or pear+brie.
    Great, now I’m hungry! 🙂

  3. My favorite grilled cheese ever was white cheddar, goat cheese and tart granny smith apples on sour dough bread. Soooo delicious.

(I tweeted a link to the giveaway! My twitter handle is @chickenramen)

  4. My fav: fresh italian bread, thinly sliced, buttered on both sides, swiss & monterey jack cheese, slices of tomato, slices of avocado

I haven’t had too many types of grilled cheeses, but the best one I remember was at college. The cook made them perfectly and it was so crispy around the edges, which I loved!!

My favorite way to make grilled cheese is over lunch break with my husband, Denny. We’re lucky enough to get to have lunch together as work is close to home, and grilled cheese is always a favorite. Potato bread and American cheese, grill on #6 on my range until it’s perfectly golden on each side. Husband has his with chicken noodle soup on the side, every time. Simple and delicious.

  13. Gina

I love grilled cheese! I love all kinds of cheese…I like to keep it simple though – wheat bread with American cheese slices, just like how mom made it! With a side of tomato soup with elbow macaroni!

  14. nicole

I love grilled cheese! I always use as many different kinds of cheese I have available… then throw on a grilled tomato!

  15. Linda Smith

Favorite comfort food around are house is wheat bread filled with mesquite turkey breast thinly sliced, topped with swiss cheese and avocado slices, buttered on the outside and grilled on the George Foreman. Serve with a bowl of tomato soup with club crackers and canned peach slices for dessert. Sounds corny, but takes us back to our childhoods and it soothes the soul.

  16. Love this giveaway! My all time fav grilled cheese with gorgonzola and pear (and I would add some bacon for kicks!) Craving one NOW!

The perfect grilled cheese is an Italian Grilled Cheese n Tomato!!! Brush 4 slices of the bread with garlic oil on 1 side. Place garlic oil side down on the grill. Top with sliced cheese, tomato and basil. Place another slice of bread on top of each sandwich. Brush sandwiches with garlic oil. Press sandwiches with heavy skillet or a brick covered with tin foil. Toast sandwiches on both sides to melt! Delicious!!

  19. Sheila

Rye bread with caraway seeds, then hot pepper cheese, or caraway swiss, alfalfa sprouts and homemade guacamole…butter the bread, then grill in a pan or panini maker…..yummy.

My favorite grilled cheese is made with Texas toast, tomato, onion, avocado, and lots of ooey, gooey cheese!

  33. O MY CUPCAKES!
I just made grilled cheese delights yesterday, and yummmm. I use mayonnaise instead of margarine, and you can’t beat the way the crispiness just gets to you, and before you realize it; it is all gone, and you are the only one in the room, thanks, and blessings, redraven

  34. The Harp has a great grilled cheese with several diff cheeses, mushrooms, bacon & tomato! When I eat it outside on their patio in the summer it makes it even better.

  35. Dana

Sharp cheddar on sourdough bread. Add tomatoes and avocado if handy. But the classic is still the best to me. And I pretty much can’t eat it unless I have tomato soup to dunk it in. Like a previous post said….I have made it with mayo on the outside (back in college) and it was to die for. I have since moved back to butter to save a bit on calories…but am sometimes still tempted.

Have been meaning to try this one….a little grilled cheese invention from my friend Kate.

Good old American cheese on wheat bread, with a side of tomato soup! Yummy.

    “Like” you on Facebook too!

  38. Slices of French bread, a mixture of shredded cheeses I have on hand (especially Colby!). I melt a little (unsalted) butter in the pan, but also thinly cover the outside of the bread with a layer of butter. Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the pan & place a mound of shredded cheese on the bread. Cover to start melting. Once melted, place 2nd slice of bread, butter-side out, on top of the cheese & flip. Cover again to complete the melting. Slice diagonally, serve with tomato soup for dipping. Classic comfort food.

  39. my favorite concoction: roasted squash, red onion, balsamic gastrique and goat cheese. HEAVENLY!

  40. Yummm, grilled cheese. It doesn’t have to be any too fancy for me. Buttered bread and a few different types of cheese grilled until golden brown. Easy and delicious!

  41. Jen

Fresh (then toasted) seeded rye bread, fontina cheese, heirloom tomato. It’s simple but it works!

  42. grilled cheese with spicy hot pickles on whole wheat sourdough. hands down, best GC ever!

  43. Kristin

The BEST grilled cheese : Ham, Gruyere and Apple on a panini.

  44. Rebecca

The best grilled cheese sandwich I ever had was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago when I was in 5th grade. That was over 20 years ago, and I still remember it. I don’t even know what made it so good, but it was certainly memorable!

  45. My favorite way to make a grilled cheese is with hearty whole wheat bread, generous amounts of real butter, and two slices of american cheese. Sooooo goooooood.

  46. We just eat the classic grilled cheese made with Kraft singles.
