{GIVEAWAY}: Super Snacks for Super Kids cookbook

Happy weekend to all of our HAP readers! Starting today, you have the fabulous opportunity to win the kid-friendly cookbook, Super Snacks for Super Kids by Sarah Fox MD and Julie Stephenson.

SuperSnacks cover

I attended the UW Writer’s Institute last weekend in Madison (for more on that, you can visit my journey to young adult authorship here) and had the pleasure of meeting the friendly staff of local Little Creek Press in Mineral Point, WI. When I saw this cookbook, my foodie brain kicked into gear. I wanted to land this beauty in the hands of one of our readers!

We’ve touched on the art of toddler food in a few other posts before. As hard as we try, it can be difficult to get healthy foods into the fingers of those finicky toddlers. Written by two moms who care about their kids’ nutrition, Super Snacks for Super Kids began as an initiative to bring in donations for the authors’ school wellness committee. With the help of Little Creek Press, these super moms have raised over $30,000 for their school’s program. All proceeds go to the Mineral Point School District Wellness committee.

In the book, you will find a collection of simple snack recipes packed with the nutrition your kids need to feel energized throughout the day. It’s divided into six sections: Snacks for Focus, Snacks for After School, Snacks for Play, Snacks for After Play, Snacks for A Crowd, and Staples. Each section contains recipes specifically designed to meet kids’ nutritional needs for their various activities.

The recipes in this book involve products that are easy to find and conform to our modern-day time constraints. You will also find tips for choosing the best foods and navigating your way through the grocery store to find the best choices for your wee ones. The book is not just good to read, but filled with beautiful photography, it is lovely to page through.

Authors Julie Stephensen and Sarah Fox also provide a way for you to create a fundraiser using their product. Check out the information on their site to learn how Super Snacks for Super Kids can be a healthy alternative to selling cookies!

So now, it is your chance to win a copy! You have until Thursday, April 25 at 11 pm CST to leave a comment on our blog about your kid’s (or nephew, niece, grandkids, friend’s kid, neighbor) favorite healthy treat! One entry per person. The winner will be announced on Friday, April 26.

You must be 18 and live in the continental United States to enter.

Thanks for entering!

  1. Would love this book for my sister. My 2.5 y/o nephew is a terrible eater and acts like he is being poisoned even with French toast or French fries and chix nuggets. Thank god he loves milk to keep him growing. He does love her homemade applesauce tho as long as u catch him at a time where he feels like eating. Would love to see his habits change with food he likes!

  2. Monica

My little boy loves blueberries so much I worry that he might turn into one like Violet from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!

  3. Strawberry/banana smoothies win with our preteen and 3 teens!

  4. Dana Bozeday

My almost 16 month old will eat just about anything, but he has 2 favorite snacks. Whole wheat crackers with hummus and avocado or freeze dried strawberries and raspberries from Trader Joes. He never turns those down!

  5. Jennifer G.

I think this book would be a great gift to give my sister so she could make tasty and healthy snacks for my nephew who is 9 months old right now. It will give her great ideas for things to make to develop a love for healthly snacks.

  6. Amy Whitford

    We love the energy bites!

  7. Linda

My 2-year-old grandson has a passion for fruit. He’s especially fond of the raspberries that grow in his own backyard, but he also loves Cuties, mangos, bananas, blackberries…he’s just an amazing fruit guy! 🙂

  8. Angela R

My 13 mo daughter loves organic crackers and yogurt. We try to feed her organic as much as possible.

  9. Jane Malone

My grandson is a very very picky eater, HATES meat. So to get a little protein into his snack he loves sliced apples and bananas with peanut butter and Nutella dip.

  10. Shelly

My 2 1/3 year old has an incredible sweet tooth! I’ve experiments w many “healthy” cookie recipes so that u don’t feel as guilty giving him a sweet treat. His favorite healthy food are mommy’s chocolate chip cookies made w whole wheat pastry flour, almond flour, flax meal, agave, eggs, baking soda, pinch of salt, vanilla and almond extracts, and organic semi sweet chocolate chips (so while not a healthy fruit or veggie, I’m a little less guiltily giving him a treat!)

  11. My little guy is only 7 months old, so he’s pretty new to the snack scene. His favorite food so far? Acorn squash.

  12. Elizabeth Rogers

This book sounds so exciting! Our favorite healthy snack is Uncle Mark’s “purple smoothie” made with berries, yogurt and banana. When we were struggling to get enough calcium and these were amazing.

  13. Brooke

My 2 year old is very picky, but I can always get her to eat fresh fruit. I’d say her favorite healthy snack is strawberries with vanilla yogurt.

  14. Lisa Lennon

My kids love fruit. Right now it’s watermelon. Can’t get enough!

  15. katie moore

The ONLY vegetable my 2 year old will eat is FROZEN peas! but he absolutely loves them!

  16. Angela Freeman

My 5 kids (ages 6, 5, and triplets at 3) love any creative snacks. I rotate “ants on a log” with celery, raisins, and PB, “bunny treats” with carrots and dip, and homemade granola with nuts, seeds, dried fruit, and dark choc chips.

  17. My little ones love hummus, especially when served in hollowed out cucumber rounds:)

  18. Kate

I don’t have any kiddos yet, but my niece loves frozen berries as a snack. Awfully messy, but she couldn’t be any cuter as she is drinking the juice in the bowl after all the berries are gone!

I’m a faithful follower of HAP and ever since reading about this book on your site, I’ve wanted it!! I have two girls (1.5y and 4.5y) and have been racking my brain to come up with a great snack to post about to enter this contest. BUT, I don’t have any —and that’s why I would LOVE this book! 🙂 We eat lots of fresh fruit, smoothies, cheese and crackers for snacks, but I would love to do better; especially now that the older one will be a kindergarten this fall and loves to snack. Thanks for considering me!
ps–hi Stef! We sure miss MKE…

  20. Bonnita Denson

My One boy loves yogurt and my two girls loves PB and apple slices
